Palazzo della Carovana

Giorgio Vasari · Pisa, Italy · 1564

Vasari transformed an earlier medieval building into the headquarters of the Knights of Saint Stephen by imposing a highly graphic sgraffito facade across the irregular fabric. The broad curved elevation and monumental stair organize Piazza dei Cavalieri and now form the principal building of the Scuola Normale Superiore.
