Palacio Salvo
Mario Palanti · Montevideo, Uruguay · 1928
Palacio Salvo is a dense vertical landmark at the edge of Montevideo’s Plaza Independencia. Mario Palanti combined offices, apartments and commercial spaces within an eclectic tower whose layered base, setbacks and richly modeled crown create a highly recognizable silhouette. Related to his earlier Palacio Barolo in Buenos Aires, the building reflects the ambitions of the Río de la Plata metropolis during the interwar period. Its tower continues to serve as one of Montevideo’s primary visual orientation points.
