Palacio Libertad Cultural Centre

B4FS Arquitectos; Norbert Maillart (historic post office) · Buenos Aires, Argentina · 2015

The cultural centre now known as Palacio Libertad occupies Buenos Aires's former central post office. The historic building by Norbert Maillart opened in 1928, while B4FS led the major adaptation completed in 2015. The intervention inserted substantial new performance and exhibition facilities within the older institutional body. The contrast between retained ceremonial spaces and the contemporary concert infrastructure makes the project especially useful for studying adaptive reuse at a large scale. Its architecture preserves several layers of public service within one urban landmark. Visiting: General cultural-centre admission is free. Performances and specific activities may require advance reservations.
