Palace of Culture, Managua
Unknown · Managua, Nicaragua · 1940
The Palace of Culture is a neoclassical state building occupying one edge of Managua’s Plaza de la Revolución. Its long symmetrical façade, arcaded openings and internal courtyards provide a formal civic counterpart to the nearby Old Cathedral. Originally built for governmental functions, it now houses major cultural institutions, making its reuse part of the reconstruction of Managua’s historic center after the 1972 earthquake. The building is valuable as one of the area’s surviving pre-earthquake public monuments.
