Palace of the Nation

Dushanbe, Tajikistan · 2008

The Palace of the Nation is the principal presidential complex in central Dushanbe and a major focus of the capital’s post-independence monumental axis. A long symmetrical façade with a tall domed central block, giant columns and extensive formal gardens gives the building an explicitly ceremonial identity. The complex was completed in 2008 in time for major international meetings and now anchors a landscape of state institutions, monuments and the Dushanbe Flagpole. Its architecture is significant as a clear expression of the neoclassical vocabulary adopted for Tajikistan’s contemporary governmental representation.
