Padmanabhapuram Palace

Travancore court workshops · Padmanabhapuram, India

Padmanabhapuram Palace is a layered timber complex of courts, halls and connecting passages. Roofs, carved woodwork and carefully moderated openings give the architecture a close relationship with the tropical climate. Its relatively intimate sequence of spaces provides a distinctive view of royal architecture through craft, domestic scale and everyday patterns of occupation. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; the palace is closed on Mondays.
