Oslo Opera House
Snøhetta · Oslo, Norway · 2008
The Oslo Opera House, completed in 2008, is a prominent example of contemporary Scandinavian architecture. Designed by Snøhetta, its most distinctive feature is the sloping, walk-on roof, clad in white granite and marble, which extends to the water's edge of the Oslofjord, inviting public access and creating a panoramic viewing platform for the city and surrounding landscape. Inside, the building features three performance spaces, with the main auditorium designed in a classic horseshoe shape and clad in oak to optimize acoustics. The extensive public access to the roof and the integration with the urban fabric reflect a commitment to democratic accessibility in public architecture. Its geometric forms and material palette contribute to its landmark status.
