Oscar Americano House

Oswaldo Bratke · São Paulo, Brazil · 1952

Oswaldo Bratke's house for Oscar Americano combines a modern domestic programme with the planted landscape of São Paulo's Morumbi district. Completed in 1952, it uses broad horizontal elements, generous openings and a close relationship between living spaces and garden. Its later cultural use allows the house to be considered as both a residence and an exhibition setting. The project is especially useful for reading the relationship between architectural structure, shaded thresholds and the gradual transition from interior rooms to the surrounding estate. Visiting: The house and gardens operate as a private cultural foundation with ticketed visiting arrangements.
