Olympic Park Railway Station

Studio 44 / Nikita Yavein · Sochi, Russia · 2013

Studio 44’s Olympic Park railway station was designed as a major transport gateway for the 2014 Winter Olympics. A broad curving roof and glazed public halls organize large passenger flows while giving the terminal a lightweight, almost aerodynamic profile. Nikita Yavein’s team treated movement as the primary architectural generator, using long circulation routes, bridges and visual connections between rail platforms and the Olympic precinct. Completed in 2013, the station is one of the strongest architectural components of Sochi’s Olympic infrastructure and a useful contrast to the city’s better-known Stalin-era resort buildings.
