Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum

Ishimoto Architectural & Engineering Firm · Naha, Japan · 2007

The combined museum and art museum adapts the massive walls and angular silhouettes of Okinawan gusuku fortifications into a contemporary cultural complex. Pale stone-like surfaces, deep openings and courtyards give the building a strong regional identity while accommodating two major institutions under one roof.
