Oita Prefectural Art Museum (OPAM)
Shigeru Ban Architects · Oita, Japan · 2015
Shigeru Ban gives the museum a highly permeable ground floor with large folding glass walls that can open exhibitions and events directly toward the city. A timber lattice and broad internal atrium soften the scale of the institutional building while keeping circulation visually connected across levels. The result is a museum conceived less as a sealed cultural container and more as an extension of public urban space.
