Number 11, Geoffrey Bawa House

Geoffrey Bawa · Colombo, Sri Lanka · 1969

Geoffrey Bawa's Number 11 developed by combining and transforming several small houses in a Colombo lane. Courts, narrow passages and carefully placed objects create a sequence of compressed and open spaces. The residence makes a modest urban plot feel expansive through changing light, partial views and a close relationship between interior rooms and planted voids. Visiting: Access is by a Geoffrey Bawa Trust guided house tour. Reserve through the Trust; independent entry outside tours is not offered.
