Neue Nationalgalerie
Ludwig Mies van der Rohe · Berlin, Germany · 1968
Mies van der Rohe placed an open glass hall beneath a large steel roof, raised above a stone terrace. Exhibition rooms continue below the plaza, allowing the transparent upper pavilion to act as both a civic space and a precise structural statement. Visiting: Exhibitions are ticketed, but the granite terrace around Mies van der Rohe's glass hall is free to walk.
