Navruz Palace
Tajik state design and artisan teams · Dushanbe, Tajikistan · 2014
Navruz Palace is a vast ceremonial and cultural complex whose architecture combines contemporary reinforced construction with an extraordinary program of Tajik decorative craft. Large reception halls are finished with carved timber, painted ceilings, mirror work, stone and ornamental plaster produced by teams of local artisans. The complex began as an expanded teahouse project but evolved into a national venue for summits, celebrations and official events. Completed in 2014, Navruz Palace is architecturally significant less for structural innovation than for the scale at which traditional decorative techniques were reintroduced into contemporary state architecture.
