National Museum of Tajikistan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan · 2013

The National Museum of Tajikistan occupies a large purpose-built complex beside Dushanbe’s principal ceremonial landscape. A symmetrical stone-clad composition is organized around a tall central entrance and domed crown, with extensive galleries devoted to natural history, archaeology, art and modern national history. The architecture combines contemporary institutional planning with historical and regional motifs rather than adopting a neutral international museum language. Officially opened in 2013, the building represents a major post-independence investment in national cultural infrastructure and is closely tied to the monumental reconstruction of central Dushanbe.
