National Museum of Norway

Klaus Schuwerk / Kleihues + Schuwerk · Oslo, Norway · 2022

Norway’s new National Museum consolidates major national collections in a large waterfront building beside Oslo City Hall and Aker Brygge. Designed by Klaus Schuwerk of Kleihues + Schuwerk and opened in 2022, the museum is organized as a restrained stone-clad base containing galleries and public functions, topped by the luminous Alabasthall exhibition volume. Its architecture prioritizes long-term gallery flexibility, robust materiality and controlled daylight rather than iconic form. The project is a major piece of Oslo’s recent cultural and waterfront redevelopment.
