National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Unknown / Republic of Korea cooperation project · Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo · 2019

The National Museum of the Democratic Republic of the Congo provides a purpose-built home for major archaeological, ethnographic and artistic collections in Kinshasa. The contemporary complex was developed through cooperation with the Republic of Korea and is organized around large climate-controlled exhibition spaces, public circulation and conservation facilities. Its restrained institutional architecture marks a significant change from older museum collections housed in adapted facilities. Opened in 2019, the project represents a substantial investment in national cultural infrastructure and in the long-term preservation of Congolese material heritage.
