National Mosque of Malaysia

Baharuddin Abu Kassim; Hisham Albakri; Howard Ashley · Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia · 1965

Malaysia's National Mosque uses a modern architectural language for a large congregational programme. Its folded main roof, slender minaret and open circulation create a sequence of shaded spaces around the prayer hall. Water and landscape are integrated with the approach, connecting the building's monumental role with a carefully moderated tropical setting. Visiting: A religious site. Basic access is normally free, with local worship, dress and photography restrictions; additional visitor attractions can be charged.
