National Monument, Jakarta

Friedrich Silaban; R. M. Soedarsono · Jakarta, Indonesia · 1975

Jakarta's National Monument combines a tall obelisk with a broad base and a flame-like crown. The surrounding park allows the structure to be read from long approaches. Its architectural role brings together national commemoration, museum interpretation and an elevated visitor experience above the city's central civic landscape. Visiting: Entry to the museum and the observation deck is ticketed; Merdeka Square around the monument is free.
