The National Art Center, Tokyo

Kisho Kurokawa; Nihon Sekkei · Tokyo, Japan · 2006

Kisho Kurokawa's museum is defined by an immense undulating glass wall facing a landscaped public forecourt. Freestanding cone-shaped volumes support cafes and platforms inside the atrium, creating a layered interior street rather than a conventional museum lobby. With no permanent collection, the building was designed for changing exhibitions, and its generous circulation spaces are central to its identity as a civic cultural venue.
