National Archaeological Museum, Athens

Ludwig Lange; Panagis Kalkos; Ernst Ziller · Athens, Greece · 1889

The museum’s neoclassical composition uses a broad entrance colonnade and a symmetrical frontage to give an expanding archaeological collection a civic setting. Its sequence of rooms and courtyards reflects several construction phases rather than a single isolated building campaign. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; the neoclassical front garden on Patission Street can be seen freely.
