National and University Library Ljubljana

Jože Plečnik · Ljubljana, Slovenia · 1941

Jože Plečnik combined a richly textured masonry exterior with a ceremonial internal route to the reading room. The contrast between the darker entrance sequence and the brighter study spaces gives the library a strong sense of progression and institutional identity. Visiting: The entrance hall and black-marble staircase are free to see; the great reading room is open to visitors only on guided tours.
