Nasher Sculpture Center
Renzo Piano Building Workshop · Dallas, United States · 2003
Renzo Piano designed the Nasher Sculpture Center as a close relationship between low gallery pavilions and a planted sculpture garden. Opened in 2003, the museum uses stone, glass and a carefully shaped overhead lighting system to provide a measured setting for sculpture. The route repeatedly reconnects indoor works with the outdoor landscape. Its restrained scale contrasts with the larger buildings of the Dallas Arts District, demonstrating how a cultural institution can establish a distinct identity through light, proportion and the continuity of its spaces. Visiting: Regular gallery and sculpture-garden admission is ticketed, with free periods and concessions.
