Nanago Dori Park Toilet
Kazoo Sato · Tokyo, Japan · 2021
Nanago Dori Park Toilet, designed by Kazoo Sato, is one of the most technologically experimental works in THE TOKYO TOILET project. The restroom incorporates voice-control functions intended to reduce physical contact with surfaces and improve hygiene, addressing a central anxiety often associated with public toilets. Located in a small park setting in Shibuya, the project links accessibility, sanitation, and digital interaction within a compact architectural object. Its design is significant because it treats technology not as spectacle but as a way to make a public facility easier and more comfortable to use. The building also reflects the initiative’s broader social message: that public infrastructure can be inclusive, carefully maintained, and thoughtfully designed for a wide range of users regardless of age, gender, or ability.
