Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum

Kume Sekkei · Nagasaki, Japan · 1996

The current museum is largely embedded below grade, using a controlled descent to separate the visitor from the surrounding city before the historical exhibition begins. The sober architecture and circular circulation sequence support a memorial program without competing with the nearby hypocenter and Peace Park.
