Mysore Palace
Henry Irwin · Mysuru, India · 1912
Mysore Palace combines ceremonial halls, arcaded courts and a layered skyline of domes and towers. Henry Irwin's design drew on several architectural traditions to create a highly theatrical royal residence. The contrast between the richly decorated interiors and the ordered external composition makes the palace a major example of early twentieth-century court architecture. Visiting: Ticketed palace visitor areas. Ownership includes both royal-family and state interests and is not reduced to a single binary value here.
