Museum of Ethnography

NAPUR Architect / Marcel Ferencz · Budapest, Hungary · 2022

The new Museum of Ethnography is shaped as two enormous curved wings rising from and returning into the landscape of Városliget. Much of the museum program sits below ground, while the sloping roofs become planted public surfaces connecting the city and park. A patterned metal façade wraps the lifted portions and filters views into the interior. Designed by NAPUR Architect and opened in 2022, the building is a major example of the current transformation of Budapest’s City Park and of contemporary museum architecture using topography to reduce the apparent scale of a very large institution.
