Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo

Teodoro González de León + Abraham Zabludovsky · Mexico City, Mexico · 1981

Museo Tamayo is conceived as a low, stepped concrete mass embedded within Chapultepec rather than as a freestanding monumental object. Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky use sloped exterior walls, terraces and a sequence of top-lit galleries to negotiate between museum program and park landscape. The building’s rough concrete and geometric clarity are characteristic of a major strand of late Mexican modernism. Opened in 1981, it provides an unusually controlled setting for contemporary art while remaining closely tied to its wooded site.
