Museo Jumex
David Chipperfield Architects; TAAU · Mexico City, Mexico · 2013
David Chipperfield's Museo Jumex gives a private contemporary art institution a clear architectural presence in Mexico City's Nuevo Polanco district. Opened in 2013, its pale stone envelope, raised body and sawtooth roof distinguish the museum from the larger developments around it. The roof brings controlled natural light to the upper galleries, while the lower levels establish public circulation and connections to the street. The project is particularly useful for comparing the calm organization of exhibition space with the density and commercial scale of its urban setting. Visiting: General museum admission is free.
