Museum for National Identity

Unknown · Tegucigalpa, Honduras · 1882

The Museum for National Identity occupies a nineteenth-century institutional building in central Tegucigalpa that previously served governmental and hospital-related functions. Its heavy masonry perimeter encloses a sequence of courtyards and high-ceilinged rooms now adapted for exhibitions on Honduran history and culture. The conversion preserves the building’s historic urban presence while introducing a contemporary museum program. Architecturally, it is a useful example of adaptive reuse within a city where large historic public buildings are relatively scarce.
