Museo de Arte Moderno
Pedro Ramírez Vázquez + Rafael Mijares Alcérreca · Mexico City, Mexico · 1964
Mexico City’s Museo de Arte Moderno is organized as low circular and curving gallery volumes set within Chapultepec rather than a single monumental block. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez and Rafael Mijares use glazed façades, concrete roofs and garden views to create a sequence of flexible exhibition spaces closely connected to the surrounding park. Opened in 1964, the museum belongs to the same period of major national cultural infrastructure as the nearby Anthropology Museum and reflects a confident Mexican interpretation of international modernism.
