Müpa Budapest

Zoboki-Demeter & Associates / Gábor Zoboki · Budapest, Hungary · 2005

Müpa Budapest combines a major concert hall, theatre and contemporary-art functions within a large cultural complex on the Danube’s eastern bank. Gábor Zoboki and his team organize the program around tall public foyers and a strong river-facing elevation, with the acoustically sophisticated Béla Bartók National Concert Hall at its core. Opened in 2005 as the Palace of Arts, the building helped extend Budapest’s cultural geography southward along the river and anchors the Millennium Quarter. Its architectural importance lies in integrating several large performance institutions within a coherent contemporary civic complex.
