Monastero Santa Rosa
Unknown · Conca dei Marini, Italy · 1681
Monastero Santa Rosa is a former seventeenth-century monastery transformed into a luxury hotel, making it a strong example of adaptive reuse on the Amalfi Coast. The building occupies a cliffside position above Conca dei Marini, where religious enclosure, sea views, terraced gardens, and hospitality programming now overlap. Architecturally, the project is interesting because the monastery’s original logic of retreat and contemplation has been reinterpreted through tourism, wellness, and landscape experience. The massing remains restrained and anchored to the cliff, while terraces and gardens extend the building into the surrounding topography. It demonstrates how historic religious architecture can be preserved, commercialized, and re-read through contemporary coastal leisure.
