Moerenuma Park

Isamu Noguchi; Shoji Sadao / I.M. Pei office collaboration · Sapporo, Japan · 2005

Isamu Noguchi conceived the entire former landfill as a single sculptural landscape rather than a collection of park objects. Geometric landforms, water basins, play structures and the glass pyramid compose a vast sequence that changes with season and viewpoint. The park is best understood by moving through it over time, making it an important landscape-scale counterpart to Japan's more building-focused architectural destinations.
