Mirador Building
MVRDV; Blanca Lleó · Madrid, Spain · 2005
MVRDV and Blanca Lleó arranged the Mirador Building as a vertical grouping of different residential types in Madrid's Sanchinarro district. Completed in 2005, its most conspicuous feature is a large elevated opening, framed by contrasting blocks of apartments. Colour and material changes help distinguish these smaller neighbourhood-like pieces within the overall volume. Circulation was conceived as a sequence of routes linking the different housing clusters. The opening provides a shared outlook for residents, while the building's composition can be studied from public streets as a response to the repetitive perimeter blocks around it. Visiting: Residential interiors and the elevated communal terrace are restricted to residents and guests.
