Milwaukee Art Museum – Quadracci Pavilion

Santiago Calatrava · Milwaukee, United States · 2001

Santiago Calatrava's Quadracci Pavilion extends Milwaukee's museum toward Lake Michigan with a dramatic public hall and a movable sunshade. Opened in 2001, its structural ribs and suspended forms create an architectural image associated with both wings and sailing vessels. The building is also a connection between the city, the lakefront promenade and the museum's earlier structures. The arrival across the pedestrian bridge and the view through Windhover Hall reveal how circulation and waterfront outlook are combined. Visiting: Collection admission is ticketed. Windhover Hall and exterior access may have separate conditions.
