MIHO Museum

I. M. Pei · Koka, Japan · 1997

I. M. Pei hides most of the museum within a forested mountain and choreographs arrival through a tunnel and suspended bridge before the building is revealed. Limestone, glass and a geometric roof reinterpret traditional Japanese spatial motifs while minimizing the apparent scale of a substantial institution.
