Mehrangarh Fort occupies a dramatic rock outcrop above Jodhpur. High walls give way to a succession of palace courts, carved screens and elaborately finished interiors. The architectural experience depends on the transition from the massive defensive exterior to the much finer scale of the royal residential and ceremonial spaces within. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; the walls rising above the blue city are best seen freely from the old town below.
