Marqués de Riscal Hotel
Gehry Partners · Elciego, Spain · 2006
Frank Gehry's hotel at Marqués de Riscal brings a conspicuous contemporary landmark into a working wine estate at Elciego. Opened in 2006, the building combines a more restrained accommodation block with looping metal canopies that catch the light above the historic winery. The contrast between stone, vineyard landscape and reflective surfaces is central to its effect. It is useful to study the hotel in relation to the older production buildings rather than as an isolated sculpture. The estate remains private, so architectural visits should be arranged through an authorized hotel, restaurant or winery experience. Visiting: A private hotel and winery estate. No general architecture admission is implied. Book an authorized hotel, restaurant or winery experience.
