Marina Grande Capri

Unknown · Capri, Italy · 1800

Marina Grande is the main arrival point to Capri and an important architectural-urban threshold. Its built environment combines port infrastructure, waterfront buildings, ticket offices, hotels, restaurants, steps, and the funicular station that lifts visitors toward the Piazzetta. The architecture is everyday rather than monumental, but that is precisely its value: it reveals how tourism, transport, fishing heritage, and island logistics are compressed into a compact waterfront. The spatial sequence from boat arrival to funicular ascent is one of Capri’s defining experiences. For ArchiAtlas, Marina Grande should be read as infrastructural public space, where movement and orientation shape the first architectural impression of the island.
