MARCO Monterrey
Ricardo Legorreta · Monterrey, Mexico · 1991
Ricardo Legorreta’s MARCO uses thick walls, vivid color, courtyards and carefully framed light to create a monumental yet distinctly regional museum in central Monterrey. A large entrance court and sculptural gateway establish a strong civic presence, while interior galleries are arranged around shaded circulation spaces rather than a single neutral hall. Opened in 1991, the museum extends the architectural language Legorreta developed from Barragán—mass, color and controlled views—into a major metropolitan cultural institution.
