Malawi Parliament Building
Chinese technical and construction team / Government of Malawi · Lilongwe, Malawi · 2010
Malawi’s Parliament Building is a large contemporary governmental complex within Lilongwe’s Capital Hill district. A symmetrical composition of administrative wings and ceremonial central volumes gives the institution a highly legible national presence, while extensive forecourts and landscaping separate it from the surrounding road network. Constructed with Chinese technical assistance and completed around 2010, the building is representative of a major generation of African state projects produced through international cooperation. Its architecture emphasizes institutional scale, axial organization and public symbolism.
