Mahkama du Pacha

Auguste Cadet · Casablanca, Morocco · 1952

Mahkama du Pacha is a large administrative and ceremonial complex in Casablanca’s Habous district. Auguste Cadet organized courtyards, arcades, reception halls and judicial spaces through a highly crafted architectural language drawing on Moroccan palaces, Andalusian traditions and local artisanal work. Carved plaster, timber ceilings, tilework and stone are used throughout the interiors rather than applied only as surface decoration. Constructed from the early 1940s into the early 1950s, the building is a significant example of colonial-era public architecture deliberately framed through Moroccan historical forms.
