Madrid–Barajas Airport Terminal 4
Richard Rogers Partnership; Estudio Lamela · Madrid, Spain · 2006
Terminal 4 at Madrid–Barajas Airport uses a repeated structural rhythm to make an enormous transport building easier to understand. Richard Rogers Partnership and Estudio Lamela combined a wave-like roof, bamboo lining, colour-coded supports and generous daylight in the terminal that opened in 2006. The consistent bay system accommodates changing passenger processes while preserving long views through the halls. Its architecture is especially clear in the landside check-in spaces, where the roof and structure can be experienced without entering the controlled departure zone. The terminal is distinct from the airport's older buildings and satellite facilities. Visiting: The landside terminal has no admission ticket. Security-controlled areas require a valid boarding pass.
