Macau Science Center
Pei Partnership Architects · Macau, Macau · 2009
The Macau Science Center combines a tilted conical exhibition volume with a planetarium dome and lower supporting buildings on a waterfront site. Pei Partnership Architects organized galleries as a spiraling route through the cone, allowing visitors to move gradually between exhibition levels while maintaining clear orientation. The clean geometric forms and pale exterior establish a strong silhouette against the Pearl River Delta waterfront. Opened in 2009, the center is an important contemporary civic building in Macau and continues the Pei office’s long interest in architecture generated from simple geometric figures.
