M+ is conceived as a horizontal museum podium crossed by a tall, slender tower containing research, office and other programs. Herzog & de Meuron, TFP Farrells and Arup organized the vast collection around large flexible galleries, a public roof landscape and direct connections to West Kowloon’s waterfront. The tower façade also functions as a large-scale media surface facing Victoria Harbour. Opened in 2021, M+ gives architecture, design, moving image and visual culture a major purpose-built institution while anchoring the developing West Kowloon Cultural District with a strong metropolitan silhouette.
