Lund Konsthall

Klas Anshelm · Lund, Sweden · 1957

Klas Anshelm’s Lund Konsthall is a restrained modernist exhibition building whose spatial character comes from proportion, daylight and carefully handled brick. Opened in 1957, the gallery avoids monumental gestures and instead provides a sequence of calm, flexible rooms around a compact urban site at Mårtenstorget. Anshelm’s precise detailing and direct use of materials give the building a quiet architectural authority. It is an important example of the human-scaled strand of Swedish post-war modernism and remains closely associated with Lund’s cultural identity.
