Place of Memory, Tolerance and Social Inclusion

Barclay & Crousse · Lima, Peru · 2015

LUM occupies a steep coastal site overlooking the Pacific and uses architecture to connect exhibition, public space and landscape. Barclay & Crousse embed much of the program into the slope, creating terraces, ramps and controlled openings that frame the sea while maintaining the gravity appropriate to a museum devoted to Peru’s period of internal violence. The building’s exposed concrete and topographic organization make movement through the site part of the commemorative experience.
