Logge Vasari
Giorgio Vasari · Arezzo, Italy · 1573
Vasari's loggia defines the high side of Arezzo's sloping Piazza Grande with a long arcaded civic edge. The repeated arches create sheltered circulation and commercial space below an upper level, regularizing one side of a square otherwise framed by buildings from different periods. Its measured Renaissance order contrasts with the steep paving and irregular medieval fabric, yet the continuous horizontal line helps unify the urban composition. The project is best understood from across the piazza, where the arcade becomes both façade and inhabited threshold. Completed near the end of Vasari's life, it remains a central element of Arezzo's public realm.
