Lawang Sewu
Jacob Klinkhamer; B. J. Ouëndang; Cosman Citroen (later phase) · Semarang, Indonesia · 1919
Lawang Sewu began as a railway administration complex and developed through several building campaigns. Its long arcades, repeated openings and substantial corner elements establish a strong institutional presence in Semarang. The architecture combines the requirements of office work with ventilation and sheltered movement suited to the tropical setting. Visiting: Entry is ticketed; the twin-towered facade can be seen freely from the Tugu Muda roundabout.
